Interesting one today, mostly for reasons that have nothing to do with the paperwork. Surface level, he's about as clean an academy promotion as I've processed. His performance metrics back him up, the cross-discipline background is a bit unusual for someone his age, and he's pretty much matched Elsie's¹ practice figures, which is quite a statement. But I'd be lying if I said that Ignacio Ramos wasn't sitting in the back of my head the whole time. He raced against Jules² for titles, in this exact team's colors, and now here's his son sitting across from me about to wear them. Alano didn't bring it up like it weighed on him; actually he talked about his father's era with something akin to pride rather than baggage, but I assume that's a story that gets told more than he gets to tell it himself.

On the racing side, I find him quite practical. Thoughtful, methodical, talks about strategy like someone who's actually studied it. Kind of a rarity with our academy pilots. That being said, I've gone through his logs beforehand, and it looks like there's a real pattern of him occasionally throwing that discipline out the window mid-race for a gut call that doesn't always pay off. Honestly, I don't think that's a flaw so much as it is a piece of who he is, really. It's just something his engineer is going to need to learn early rather than get surprised come the first toss-up. All told, I left this one optimistic. He's got the head for it, and he's inheriting a story that I'm sure will have the media eating at him. I'm curious to see how he grows into it.
