MAGMA IS THE FIRST PLANET FROM HYDRUS AND THE SMALLEST OUT OF THE SIX. IT IS THE ONLY PLANET IN THE HYDRUS SYSTEM TO HOST ZERO LIFE.
Magma (formally Hydra I) is the first planet from Hydrus and the smallest out of the six. It is classified as a sub-earth, terrestrial planet. Magma's surface is extremely hot, with about 15% of the planet being covered by rivers of magma and other molten elements. As a result, it is the only planet with no human activity.
Magma is a dark, terrestrial planet dimly lit by it's rivers of magma that flow throught the entirety of it's crust. The temperature on Magma is extreme, averaging around 800° C - inhospitable for human life. Magma is geothermically active, with 7000 recorded volcanoes; 50 of which have been identified as supervolcanoes. Gravity on the planet is weak, measured to have only 40% of Terra's gravitational force.
Magma is the closest to Hydrus, orbiting at 49 million kilometers. Due to it's close proximity, it cannot sustain an atmosphere.
Overall, the characteristics of Magma mesh perfectly with each other to create the system's most unwelcoming planet.
Even if Magma cannot sustain any life, humanity has still found a use for it. Deep within the ZELL region lies the Helteinen crater, known to be rich with exotic minerals and resources. Once this was discovered, companies immediately started development on ways to extract precious resources from the crater. This process proved to be arduous, with multiple companies even going bankrupt in the process - hoping that they would beat their shrinking wallets to the ore deposit. It wouldn't be until 2271, when the first set of companies successfully setup a series of stations and autonomous probes to retrieve these resources for them.
As time progressed, this process would become more accessible and streamlined - slowly turning into one of Hydrus' largest industries: external resource extraction.
