Properties
PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS | PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS
Gauus is a mega-earth terrestrial planet, and the fifth planet in the Hydrus planetary system. While the planet has the majority of elements necessary for animal life, there is no indication of it ever developing, leaving Gauus with only plants and fungi. Two species dominate the surface: Pseudochloa filiformis, a grass-like plant species, and Titanomyces arborus, a large tree-like fungus. The rest of Gauus' surface is made up of igneous rock, with an abundance of rare minerals strewn throughout the crust.
Temperature on the planet is stable, with an average surface temperature of -74°C.
Gauus is geologically active, with frequent tectonic movement. Gravity on the planet is somewhat strong, about 1.3 times the gravity one would experience on Terra. It's atmosphere is composed primarily of nitrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide, and methane.
ORBITAL CHARACTERISTICS | ORBITAL CHARACTERISTICS
The planet rests outside Hydra's habitable zone. This orbit lasts approximately 10,800 days.
There is one natural satellite orbiting Gauus; Obscura. This satellite orbits extremely close to Gauus, completing two orbits every day. Given Obscura's proximity to Gauus, it's expected that it will reach it's Roche limit very soon, in which Obscura will break apart and merge with Gauus' existing rings.
