By the late 2400s, Gauus had become an industrial powerhouse. Due to it's abundance of rare metals, it's material extraction industry was the main provider of resources for the UNIA's technological efforts. However, this reliance on Gauus created an economical imbalance among the UNIA, which worried Terran leadership. They would begin pushing for tighter regulations on Gauus' trade, which Gauusian leadership saw as economic exploitation.

Further political discord would drive their relations in even rockier waters. Being the birthplace of humanity, Terra held significant influence within the UNIA. However, Gauusian leadership felt that they should have an equal amount of influence in UNIA decision making, given their growing population and economic strength. When Terra resisted these demands, Gauus viewed it as a threat to the existing political order, and made them question their membership in the UNIA.

In 2510, they would declare their intention to break off from the UNIA, claiming that the alliance mainly favoured Terra's interests above all. This would spark outrage on Terra, who now feared for the stability of the alliance and it's resource network.
